Fillings

Fillings are needed when the tooth is damaged due to decay, fracture, or wear. The damaged portion of the tooth is prepared and is replaced with either a metal or resin material. Metal (amalgam) type fillings was the standard filling material used and has now been mostly replaced with resin (white). Resin restorations are more conservative and cosmetic that their counterpart. Metal restorations do last a long time, however, tend to be larger and cause teeth to fracture over time resulting in a much larger filling and or crown.
